Good Day Folks,

I know that there have not been posts for about a month, but you could all use the time off.  As you get ready for the new school year and the AP US History course, there will be a few things to begin to prepare for in order to get a quick start to the year and have early success.  For the first day of class there will be three assignments to complete.  They can be done in any order between now and then. I will post the first two today; then the third will follow next week.  Please get the word to others that you know are taking the class but have not been on the blog this summer, so they can get the assignments done.

Assignment# 1 for Unit 1: Read Chapter 1 of Brinkley that you received at the end of school in May.

Assignment #2 for Unit 1: Research three of the Native American Tribes that lived in the area that would become the United States. They should come from the following areas: Eastern Woodlands, Southwest, and one other region.  Then create a chart that compares these Native American tribes: their economies, politics, religion, societal organization and behaviors, etc.  Remember in historical comparison one is looking for both similarities and differences. Also, in the chart be sure to take into consideration the environmental factors that influenced the development of their social structure and practices.  Anticipate why considering these environmental factors would be important for the study of American history moving forward in the course.

If you have questions, post them in the blog or e-mail me, and I will get back to you.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and please complete these items before day 1 of class.
