Assignment #2

Good Day,

One of the tasks that we will be working on throughout the year are reading documents.  These will be both primary sources and secondary sources prepared by historians.  We will be using several different techniques to break down and analyze the reading.  The first technique is the following:

On notecards or in notebook

1. Identify two or more of the following features: historical context, purpose, and intended audience, the author's point of view, type of source and tone(appropriate use of historical evidence)

2. What is the author's thesis?(main argument)

3. Look for supporting evidence, analyze whether it is logically interpreted by the author.

4. What does the source add to your understanding of the topic? What points are strongly made and well connected using evidence?

5. Which sources make the most convincing case and why?

For the assignment, Read and complete these five actions for Viewpoints 3A and 3B "European Colonists and Native Americans"  Again answer in comments, if your comments are not being published then e-mail at predmorea@grahamlocalschools.org with your answers.  I will try to get the comments working correctly.  Have a great week.

Assignment #1

Good Day,

As we begin our study of American History, I think that it would be good to begin with a simple exercise.  On pages 6-7 of Chapter 1, you will find a box at the top titled "Where Historians Disagree".  Please read this material and answer the following items in the comments section of the blog:  "What is history? Why do we study history? Can there actually be a true history of any event in the past?"  The responses do not have to be long, but please try to answer them thoughtfully.
Have a good week and look for the next assignment on 6/16/2014.

This week in American History:

Congress adopts the design for the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777
